Offsite Ready Online Platforms
City of Glasgow College
Digital Learning
The Offsite Ready project aims to develop knowledge and skills in modern methods of construction by providing a comprehensive suite of online flexible training modules to ensure the project outputs are accessible ‘anytime, anywhere’.
The goal of the best practice was to create a project website to host all of project information alongside an online learning suite to allow the materials to be freely accessed by the learner.
Google G Suites was chosen as the best platform to use for development of the website as is it freely accessible and also provides free web and file hosting. To host the online learning tools Udemy was the best choice as there is no cost involved and there is already a wide range of viewers on the engaging with the platform. Both sites were easy to use and allowed budget to be disseminated elsewhere within the project.
This project was a learning experience for the City of Glasgow learning technologies team as it allowed them to expand their knowledge of Google Sites whilst also developing an online website for the project. The COGC learning technologies team are now undertaking a project of their own to develop an online website to help others who would like to do the same. Another benefit from this project is within the partnership as there is further project partnerships being explored.
The main resource required for this project was human resource, as this was a new technology the team weren’t familiar with there was a lot of time required to working out how to use it. The main tip to anyone looking to do the same would be to try and find free and easy to use technologies and think about the long term goals not just the short term.
