Improving Nursing Students’ Critical Thinking Skills

Technology:

Thinglink

Critical thinking skills are an essential addition to a nurse’s toolbox, particularly in acute situations. We’ve created contextual learning by using internet technology to bring the patient to the students.

My goal was to try and convey the sense of urgency that one experiences when treating an acutely ill person. Without making it an unsafe situation for the student, of course.

I first discovered Thinglink during a field trip to Finland, where this technology was developed. It’s a very intuitive tool that needs little prior experience.

My advice would be to start small, try just one lesson with an application like this. Evaluate its effectivity with your students. They are our most important stakeholders, after all.
